Invisalign: All you need to know
(Invisalign)
A beautiful smile brightens your life. You are eager to straighten your teeth for better looks, but it bothers you a whole lot to be wearing metal braces for months or years, making it uncomfy to eat or show your teeth. Dont worry! Invisalign with nearly invisible aligners is just the right option for you!
What is Invisilagin?
Invisalign is an othordontic treatment option for aligning your teeth and fixing your bite without being bulky and visible. With this measure, you are given transparent aligners tailor-made for you. Your orthodontists are going to plan a treatment plan suitable for you, and the trays are then 3D printed accordingly.
How does Invisalign work?
Made up of a special type of thermoplastic resin, the aligners exert a transient force to help shift them towards the right position. Each aligner is worn 1-2 weeks for at a required amount of 22 hours per day. The aligner wraps around the teeth and with the help of tooth colored bumps glued to the teeth (called attachments), the teeth move more efficiently towards the planned result.
What is the process of getting Invisalign aligners?
Step 1: Your photos and radiographs are taken using the CT conbeam machine. Unlike traditional braces where gross molds are pressed into your teeth, this method only utilizes a 3D scan of your teeth. The data are then sent to the Invisalign technicians along with a proposed treatment plan.

Step 2: The technicians create digital version of how your teeth may move to the desired position, and make it comprehensively into an animated film. You watch this with your dentist and discuss for agreement or fixation of the treatment plan.
Step 3: After the treatment plan is created, Invisalign technicians manufacture the required aligners suitable for you using CAD/CAM technology. You wear it according to prescription and along the way, the set of aligners are monitored by your orthodontist. You would wear each pair for approximately 2 weeks before moving to the next one till the end results.
Step 4: The results are evaluated by dentists. Trivial adjustments may be needed in some cases. And then, you are done! Congratulations on your new beautiful smile and good bite!
Advantages of Invisalign over braces
Nearly Invisible
You can always smile with confidence, because no one can see your almost crystal-clear aligners. Wires and metal brackets are not in the house in this case.
(Invisible Aligners)
Removable
Unlike braces that are fixed over the months, now you can easily remove your trays on your own, thanks to the SmartTrack flexible material of Invisalign aligners. Feel free to enjoy your favorite food any time you want!
(Easy to Remove)
Lesser Pain
Fear of the terrible pain of getting your teeth tightened? Invisalign got your back! SmartStage and SmartForce technologies guarantee there will only be moderate and gradual yet effective teeth movement throughout your treatment.
Lesser Doctor Visits
Unlike braces where you have to visit your doctor every 3-4 weeks, Invisalign frees up your schedule with visits to the clinic only once every 6-8 weeks.
Better Oral Hygiene
As easily removable as Invisalign is, the method helps you to better clean your tools and brush your teeth without the assistance of dentists. All you need to do is lightly brush your trays with a soft toothbrush and toothpaste, unlike metal braces, where you find it challenging to clean the food between the metal brackets without a hand from your othordontist.
Can everyone use Invisalign?
Regardless of age, all patients can wear Invisalign, since this method is custom-made for each set of of teeth.
However, there are several cases where metal braces are a better treatment for more precise tooth control, in particular closure of extraction space, impacted teeth, and teeth with poor bone levels. These situations demand more control over tooth movement which is difficult to achieve with a removable aligner. Such cases are best treated with fixed orthodontic treatment like braces or a partially fixed treatment along with Invisalign.
Since Invisalign braces need to be worn 22 hours a day, patient compliance plays a major role in impacting the successful outcome of Invisalign Treatment.
Hence, if you think you are not going to be responsible with wearing removable aligners, we recommend you go in for fixed braces instead.
Can any dentist do Invisalign?
The answer is No. Not every dentist is trained and experienced to provide quality Invisalign treatments, although the aligners are manufactured by technicians following instructions.
The key element of a successful Invisalign case lies in the treatment plan given by the othordontist. Hence, specialist othordontists with training and experience to cater specifically to Invisalign needs of the patient, are the designated people for the job.
In the case of an overly complicated dental problem, these specialists can also treat you with lingual braces, damon braces, or conventional braces; depending on what is best suited to treat you.
